San Francisco-Part 3

We left San Diego on Thursday July 7 and traveled to Pendleton Beach (not that far) to stay on the beach overnight with his brother Adam Perrins and family. It was fun, we got to hang out and have dinner and then we got up the next morning and packed up and headed on the road. It was about an 8 hour drive up to San Francisco. We decided to take I5 and beat the downtown LA traffic, and would catch up with the Highway 1 later. The girls did great, except for the time the high patrolman pulled us over. You see in the great state of California the speed limit is a maximum of 55 for autos and trucks pulling trailers. We did not know this and so the girls freaked out thinking that the policeman was going to take their daddy away. We did get a ticket, which is another story, but then we had to travel the rest of the way at 55-which is really quite slow. Of course, you could see semi trailers still passing us. LOL.
Well one goal of mine this years was to see the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Well here it is, all covered in a fog that rolled in while we were crossing it. It was cold, windy and so we decided not to get out and walk across it. We drove around San Francisco a little bit and got to see some of the piers etc. It was neat.

The Golden Gate Bridge was big, but I really didn't get to see it that well. Luckily we didn't have to pay a toll.

The Bay Bridge

On our way we saw the island Alcatraz. Well kinda saw it, was foggy and far away. We decided before our trip not to really tour it because it isn't kid friendly.

We crossed the Bay Bridge first which didn't have any fog and it was cool. We did have to pay a toll which we also hit it at rush hour traffic.
We had a long day of traveling and ended up staying just outside of San Francisco. I HATE to admit this but I must so you can see what sometimes I have to deal with. We planned on staying at a state park and so we got their around 8 pm. It was 50 dollars to stay there and Nathan thought that that was too much money. So he said we would travel up the coast a little bit more and try and find something. We were all tired and so we got a little bit farther and then found this little town, and we were going to try and stay in an Inn. Well literally they had no room for a family of five. So my husband asked to stay in this guys backyard, which was really his side yard for 20 bucks, right next to the road mind you, which we did listen to all night. He really did this!! We set up camp and of course we all had to go to the bathroom. Well no bathrooms. We had to run back into this small town, and use the restaurants bathroom, the only thing open I guess this late at night in a small town. This was NOT my favorite part of the trip, but the next morning we put the trailer down and hit the road. We stopped in another town which I cant remember the name, but the restaurant we stopped to have breakfast at the old movie THE BIRDS was filmed there. We got ocean view dining and the girls loved it.
